2. Does your vetting of volunteers include:

3. Do your volunteers need to be bilingual? How helpful would it be if they were?
While volunteers do not need to be bilingual, many of the students we serve are not native English speakers and bilingual tutors can play a vital role in supporting their academic and college access success.

4. Is the volunteer opportunity episodic or continuous?
Both episodic and continuous volunteer opportunities are available.

5. What is the time commitment?
For episodic opportunities, the time varies and is typically from 2- 4 hours. For continuous opportunities, volunteers typically spend two hours a week tutoring students in a classroom setting.

6. When does the opportunity begin and when does it end, i.e. is it tied to the academic school calendar?
The Academic Success program operates during the school year from September through June.

7. Do you provide training for your volunteers?
All new volunteers receive initial onboarding to familiarize them with our programs, policies, and the students they'll be supporting. In addition to this foundational training, we offer ongoing optional training sessions throughout the year, covering a variety of topics designed to enhance skills and provide new strategies for working with students. All continuous volunteers are required to complete an annual mandated reporter training. We also provide tutors with access to online resources to supplement the required training.

8. Do you utilize teen volunteers? Would you if they were available?
We welcome all applicants over the age of 16 providing they are available when needed as most of our requests are during the school day.

How many volunteers does your organization currently utilize?

This past year, our Academic Success program supported 136 active volunteers.

How many more would you need to have full capacity?

50

Would you increase your volunteer offerings programmatically if you had more volunteers?

There are currently more need in the schools than we are able to meet. More volunteers would help us better meet the needs of the schools we serve. We currently have the greatest need for math and science tutors at high school Grades 9-12.

What would you like potential volunteers to know in addition to the above?

10,000 Degrees Academic Success volunteers tutor students from low-income backgrounds in Marin County public school classrooms. Established in 1997 as Marin County School Volunteers, which merged with 10,000 Degrees in 2017, our volunteers now tutor K-12 students at 20 Marin County schools, providing academic tutoring, classroom support, and homework assistance.

Our Academic Success team is made up of 130+ volunteers providing over 4,000 hours of tutoring to 1,008 students each year.

We appreciate all that our dedicated volunteers and partnering schools do to bring the 10,000 Degrees Academic Success program to our Marin County students and look forward to welcoming even more volunteers!
